How do compression stockings work

One of the questions we get asked here at Neo-Slip on many occasions is how our compression socks work. In response to this ever recurring question we have put together a simple explanation and info graphics to help you get a better understanding.

How Neo-Slip compression socks help prevent embolism and DVT Compression stockings help to maintain the flow of blood in your leg veins and reduce leg swelling. They are used to treat leg ulcers and varicose veins, and to help reduce the risk of blood clots forming in the veins of your legs deep vein thrombosis, (DVT) during air flight or after an operation.

As you walk, the contraction and relaxation of the calf muscles around the veins aid in moving blood toward the heart. Neo-Slip’s graduated compression stockings act as a layer of muscle gently squeezing the stretched vein walls together, allowing the valves to close and force blood toward the heart reducing the occurrence of blood clots.

They are called graduated compression stockings because the pressure is greatest at your ankle and reduces further up your leg. The pressure they exert is measured in mmHg. It’s important to know which are the best compression socks for your needs. We have included a chart to help you choose.
